The Roemerberg serves
as the historical and traditional point of the city. The Roemer, Frankfurt's
landmark and town hall, a Patrician house with a three-pronged gable facade,
was built in the 14th century,. Not far away lies the KAISERDOM,
a gothic cathedral which has witnesssed the coronation of ten emperors.
An important place in German history is the PAULSKIRCHE, seat of
the first democratically-voted parliament in 1848.
The ALTE
OPER is Frankfurt's magnificent concert house constructed in Italian
high renaissance style whilst the nightlife is vibrant in OLD SACHSENHAUSEN,
with over 120 pubs which line the cobbled pedestrian promenade. The city
is also popular for its PALMENGARDEN, a 20 hectare botanical garden
and THE STAEDEL ART INSTITUTE, which is dedicated to art from the
14th century up to modern times.
